The Penguin: A Captivating Descent into Gotham's Underworld

:After the events of ‘The Batman’ this TV mini-series revolves around Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobb, or as he is more infamously known, The Penguin, who tries to work his way up the ranks of the crime scene in Gotham. It brilliantly presents his character as a warden regardless of his background trying to become a supervillain and the show portrays his drive and rising to the power the best way. The mood is sombre and grueLL; the portrayal of the setting in Gotham is menacing to the core.

Despite beating around the bush for a little too long, Colin Farrell emerges brilliantly as the Penguin. Cristin Milioti brightens the show and enriches the cast of characters by her performance.

In front of the director’s chair of Craig Zobel, Kevin Bray, and Helen Shaver, ‘The Penguin is all packed up with a concise and coherent plot and skillful visuals. Every director adds his flavor and this enriches the overall thematic of the series.

The musical score helps in developing the sinister tones of the show, thus increasing the dramatic tension and arousal of the emotions throughout the series.

Great work has been done in the field of cinematography, portraying the gothic style of Gotham in very dark colors. There is a special attention to how corners are shaped and what everything is build from, which enhances the show’s mood and plot twits.

The setting helps make the show look and feel realistic and as dark as Gotham city is painted in the comic books.

Special effects are good but do not overwhelm the show and make it be as raw and real as the world of Gotham should be.

Cuts keep the show interesting and help in making It is rather edgy, at times wittingly funny, but always paired with tension.

The show excels in storytelling as seen in ‘The Penguin’ but there are breaks in between that allow the audience get more into Penguin’s villainous turn. It is a tale of dreams and despair that stays with you way past the end titles.
