South Park - TV Series Review

South Park is a cartoon series about the lives of four boys – Stan, Kyle, Eric and Kenny – living in a grotesque and insane Colorado town called South Park. The [[series]], famous for biting satire, imagines the kids in extraordinary circumstances – kidnapped by space aliens, they fight monsters a la [_creme de la creme_] of celebrity (Figure 3) – all while trying to understand the idiosyncrasies of their peculiar town.

It is violent and racy, with sour taste that pulls no punch; it focuses on social political criticism, censorship besides humor. With the themes of the show revolving around being politically Incorrect and the use of plain and simple foul language many times throughout the show you cannot help but see how the show is challenging narrow-minded societal norms. The main four characters are Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny: all four represent a rather imperfect main cast which is rather easily likable because of their flaws and mistakes they make; It’s as far as their relationships and the conflict which they present is both funny and pivotal to the show’s narrative. Their direction paints a perfect blend of humor and satire bringing a never-seen-before kind of experience, which though is shocking, has the humorous touch in it.

The songs and music played in South Park are vapid and repetitive, they play a very pro-active role in underlining the satirical elements of that particular scene. It encompasses funny musicals that are entertaining but also contain a subtext; provides comedic depth to the cartoonish aspect of the series; Deliberate use of low frame rate and limited character movement. This form of animation adds to penchant for timing in comedy, as well as the key thrust of the show’s humor: the absurd.

The animation style in South Park is heavily cartoon like, the staccato graphics of the cut-out animation coupled with brightly saturated colors intensify the show’s humor and its satirical content.

What it lacks in fancy graphics and detailed characterization is made up for by the rich comedy and the cartoonish eight-and These effects are most important for the generation of the purposely ‘off’ or strange situations and visuals which make up the culture of the series. Fast action and transitions are usually needed to sustain the proper pace for a show, to deliver jokes effectively and have a good view for an audience member.

The pacing is an important thing for maintaining comedy and most of the episodes in South Park are rather tightly constructed. This fast-paced writing also helps to maintain a comedic tone that does not let the audience’s interest fade away.

South Park has always been famous for creating dialogues which are as close to the edge as possible when it comes to satire. The scripts are funny but also provocative and satirical; using provocative topics to drive the show and provoke reactions from the audience.

The show is very good at its satire and can be greatly funny but using controversy to an extent can be quite overdoing it sometimes. Its unsophisticated humor may be received negatively by some, while others may consider it the perfect fit for the show that has never shied away from saying it as it is.

The show prides itself in its ability to further the art of satirical storytelling and depict the society as it really is. Its uniqueness and bad boy tag set it apart as a comedy show of its kind and a very memorable one at that, you’ll never forget it is tag as both a social and political comedian.
