Power: A Thrilling Ride Through the Underbelly of Manhattan
James Ghost St. Patrick is a New York nightclub owner and successful drug kingpin who leads two lives: the hustle, which is how he lives on the streets, and the other, which is his legitimate existence. Omari Hardwick suits the job, as James St. Patrick, a charismatic nightclub owner and a fearsome drug lord. His Ghost portrayal is nuanced and colours the internal struggles and aspirations of the character. Joseph Sikora stars as Tommy Egan, Ghosts volatile, yet loyal right hand man, and does so in a way thats forced you to feel for him since day one. Naturi Naughton as Tasha St. Patrick and Lela Loren as Angela Valdes bring complexity to their roles and add depth to life of Ghost in the series; M.J. Bassett also gets a mention for his directing on episode two while Sanford Bookstaver fronts the rest as they skillfully mix the drama with the action for the series.
Ghost has strong direction as a whole, led by Sanford Bookstaver and M A seamless narrative flow that keeps you hooked from the beginning till the end; each episode is almost wound as a single thread.
The soundtracks are driven with hip hop tracks and were so edgy that they complement the intoned glamour and grit of Ghosts life from there. Power music is excellent – it enhances the fast-paced scenes of the show with its themes.
The cinematography in Power is great – the luxurious splendor of New York’s elite surroundings contrasted with the shady undertones of the city’s criminal underworld; Mirror image: Lighting and color palette selections are carefully planned to express the dual nature of Ghosts life in Power
Production design for Power recreates the opulent nightclub world and the violent reality of the drug trade itself. The set designs are realist and immersive, like there to make real story and give a viewer good visual trip. Power is crisp and efficient editing, and supports the intense and edgy narrative with the use of occasional effects. It stays at such a tight pace, making sure that every moment moves the storyline along. The dual narratives flow smoothly, and transitions are smooth as well, facilitating the flow of Power, which keeps this up at a gripping pace, as well balancing dramatic encounters with high staked action. However, ‘Power’, as fascinating as it is, may be overshooting with the indulgence of nudity and explicit content leaving others feeling a bit too gratuitous. Moreover, some plot twists in the drama may feel predictable to more experienced crime drama fans; however, it is an intriguing account of the underworld of ambition and threat. Essentially a plot of crime and drama, its thrilling and to a point thought provoking, keeping you on the edge of your seat and begging for more.
