Nestled in the sub-basements of the White House with a low-ranking FBI agent at its core, Peter Sutherland, ‘The Night Agent’ quickly moves from a simple security threat to all of that and more. When a solitary phone, usually silent, rings, Peter is unexpectedly hit by a chain reaction that may destabilize the very base of the nation’s politics. This is a mystery and as the story continues there’s always something wrong with the water and it becomes very clear, trust is something he does not and should not have. Each turn makes the viewers sit on the edge of their seats and see Peter dealing with harrowing threats in what appears to be a hostile road-map to the White House. To some extent, it can be described as an action-packed political thriller with the dramatic tension running high, making people watch the show till the very end. The series does a good job of establishing the mood of constantly impending danger and successfully blends political drama with some action thriller. These themes are complemented by the settings of Washington D.C, whereby everything takes place in a political and historical context, making the consequences of actions feel life-threatening for the characters. This is achieved in the thematic conflict between duty and betrayal, which guides the emotional arc of the series and provides a thoughtful analysis of the global morality of law enforcement officers who find themselves in a defiled world of corruption.

Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland brings the nervous but determined heroism of a man who finds himself in a plot he barely understands and does not control. His performance is very impressive since he both displays weakness and strength; he is sensitive in every scene. It is essential to mention that Luciane Buchanan’s performance complements Basso’s well done, with Ann’s character residing as a mix of a friend and an antagonist to Peter’s destiny. Other members of the ensemble are Fola Evans-Akingbola, Sarah Desjardins, and Eve Harlow; all of whom also contribute quite a lot to the performance; they all twist the plot in their own little ways. Cumulatively the cast comes up with the deserving porformed that is real and serious for the complicated plot.

The movie ‘The Night Agent’ is well directed by Adam Arkin, Guy Ferland and Seth Gordon thus being tight on the narrative and enough focused on the pace and tension. Their cooperative work can create a coherence that adds to the series’ mood, providing a storytelling approach to benefit from tension and suspense. The original direction of the programme is vital to presenting the viewer with the emotional and psychological impact of the series As for nail-biting suspense, the score of ‘The Night Agent’ imbues the series with just this. The music is composed with much insight into the material, enhancing the orchestration on screen, and gives great support to the growth of the film’s tension and resolution. Its beat-like syncopation echoes the heart rates of the protagonist as he lives his dangerous life.

The cinematographies in ‘The Night Agent’ as the Washington, D.C. – big and small, beautiful and dark. The use of lighting and camera becomes even more profound to create tension through building conspiracy with the help of perfect balance of light and darkness in the series which is based on uncovering secrets and mistrust between friends and enemies. Taking the latter in mind, the most significant aspect of the series would be the aspect of production design, as it created a dramatic and suspenseful atmosphere similar to the show’s plot. In the television series, the basement of the White House where Peter Sutherland working also turns into a character. Its style is very much confined and dark, which directly reflects surveillance and secrets, two elements that are fundamental to the movie. The directors have managed to create an environment of credibility in terms both of appearance and narrative advancement.

The action-oriented special effects of ‘The Night Agent, are on a par with the film’s theme and sub-plots. These episodes, not characterized by showy action and massive scenes, guarantee that the audience is placed directly in front of a moving picture. The effects compliment the sets and props for the realistic setting and look of the show perfectly.

The way transitions occur in ‘The Night Agent’ are seamless and the suspense is kept intact. Brisk edits add to hunts and fighting as asserting broken and unstable elements inherent in the spy niche. It has felt like constant build up, and the editors did well to mix the intense sequences with relatively calm ones and make it all rather entertaining. The plot is pushed forward with great measure, with breaks between action sequences being dedicated to characters’ development. This way, the spectators are always actively involved, which creates tense atmosphere from the beginning till the end, with leaving the viewers tired.

The drama of ‘The Night Agent’ is made by the perfect choice of words and sharp, determined dialogue that reflects the essence of political game. When two or more people are conversing, the language and attitude are shaded with a threat and mistrust, which are also the undercurrents of the show’s themes of secrecy and conspiracies. Notably, the scriptwriters(Mapes, 2017) successfully capture the essence of the instituted topicality to the characters throughout the dialogue interactions, making every character as realistic as possible.

Although ‘The Night Agent’ adeptly weaves through the complex corridors of the conspiratorial led framework, the novelty of the plot has minuses in that it overemphasizes implausibility of some of the plot building features. While ‘Murder at the Gallops’ as an Agatha Christie story has logic as its core, some plot twists can be almost expected, and the character development sometimes seems to be overshadowed by the frantic pace of the series. Though these episodes may take somewhat away from the overall picture, the twisting story and strong acting make it truly an exciting movie to watch. This series impressed with non-trivial directing, an interesting plot, and powerful acting; viewers are left thinking about trust and lying in the given world after watching it. Nevertheless, it becomes another worthy political thriller keeping the viewer engaged in Peter Sutherland experience in the maze of conspiracy.
