An Intriguing Dive into 'To Catch a Killer'

The drama ‘To Catch a Killer’ depicts the real life story of a police woman known as Eleanor Falco who is recruited by an FBI trainer to apprehend a dangerous shooter in Baltimore. It can therefore be described as a crime, drama mystery film that delivers an entertaining and most of the time an extremely fascinating ride in its narrative. Such elements as multiple plot lines, multiple characters with changing affiliations, and the intricacy of the schemes make the narrative very engrossing and leave the reader on the edge of his seat. It’s quite a cat and mouse race that goes to the mental realm of the criminal to express that danger lurks not only at night but even where we least expect it. It successfully develops the themes ofoty of good against evil as well as the role of desperation in people’s lives. The mood is serious and dramatic, and there is hardly any instance in which the tide of tension is low. It also deals with issues like depression, extremism, and the instances of the shootouts, and the social issues like pressure to perform for success. Ben Mendelsohn, who portrays the FBI agent in the film, plays his character well, the pressure that one would expect the character to have. Kubo and Kiki are interesting and believable characters whose relationship is responsible for emotional focus of the movie. Another impressive performance is by Ralph Ineson who plays Dean Possey, the chief antagonist, menacing uncaring man shaped by life’s circumstances.

Concerning the movie, Damián Szifron does an excellent job in his direction to ensure that every part contributes to the overall plot. This man has a fine knack to establish suspense and thus ‘To Catch a Killer’ is a watchable series.

This is a perfect score that complements the storyline of the show perfectly. It builds up tension and emphasizes issues of sexuality in the plot. The balance is therefore achieved well through the efficiency of the other elements, without bothering the viewer excessively.

For instance, the camera work paints an eloquent picture of Baltimore, symbolising the dark nature of the storyline. Low lights and close-up shots create feelings of confinement so significant to thriller movies, making the film look more thrilling.

Production design makes the movie more realistic since it utilizes real Central London environments and sets the perfect shot for the crime storyline of the movie. The intertwining of the visuals is beneficial and fitting, mostly contributing to the suspense and urgency of the story.

There are some effects which are good despite the fact that most of them are employed mainly to bring out the features of significant scenes. They enhance the action aspect of the film and the seriousness of the thriller and makes it believable.

The work of the editor is sharp and unpretentious. In regards to the style, it actively employs cuts and transitions and has a fast pace that is important for creating an atmosphere of suspense and making the audience capture the moments on the screen.
