Experienced in his profession, Christian Wolff is back in theatres on a mission to solving another crime, the murder of a Treasury chief, with the help of Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina and his brother, Brax. The movie tries to show different themes such as the obligation to the family and the fight for justice and at the same time the distinction between the legal and the right thing to do. The movie maintains a serious kind of air and has some exciting action sequences and plot twists which make the audience immerse themselves to a world of strategic speaking and moral dilemmas. Jon Bernthal gives some gravitas to Brax that includes both conflict and friendship. Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Daniella Pineda, and J.K. Simmons give valuable input; thus, the movie is full and meaningful with their presence, offering the audience different views.
Gavin O’Connor did a great job directing this film as he pays attention to the qualities of an exemplary sequel and intense action scenes. O’Connor proves to be quite successful at sustaining the tension while at the same time, develops a new story that pays homage to its prequel but also asserts its uniqueness. The music serves as an emotional conduit, paralleling the protagonists journey with uplifting yet haunting melodies.
The films cinematography captures the gritty undertones of a world enmeshed in secrets, using sharp frames and strategic lighting to emphasize the characters isolation and the palpable tension within every scene.
