A Hilarious Exploration of Bonds in 'Friendship'

  • 27

In ‘Friendship,’ Craig Waterman is presented as a person who leads a very simple and disciplined life at the level of his house up to the point the new neighbor, Brian, enters his life. This is the major theme of the movie when Craig has to learn that the steadiness and certainty of his life are threatened by the element of chaos Brian exhibits. The appearance of Brian renegotiates the concept of trust and friendship, as well as complicates the-simple suburban image that Craig has in his mind. Family safety and friendship are the main themes of the movie; however, humor and comedy are also apparent throughout the picture. It has components of comedy to explore ideas of friendship, trust, and becoming one’s self. It contains a comic and humorous side, and serious discussions and reflections of people’s behavior, and that makes them more attentive and interested in the show. The weird comedy and philosophical musings that are both in balance makes the film to be profound and funny at the same time.

The movie features excellent acting from Rudd as Craig whose excessive preparation and quirkiness brings humor to the film. Playing the fellow patient, Brian, Tim Robinson fits into the film’s tone with his eccentric and spontaneous performance to support Rudd. There is chemistry between them which make their interaction feel like the realism of emerging friends with no other intentions are evident. Kate Mara and Meredith Garretson do a good job at supporting and the overall mood of the suburban life is realistic. His style makes the movie realistic, while appropriate for the young audience it caters and has lots of practical jokes. DeYoung does well in sustaining the humor while portraying different social relationships hence contributing to the success of the film The ability to do comedy overpowers the soundtrack without distracting the audience. It also supports emotion signals, thus contributing to the provision of the film’s beats. The music enhances the pictures associated with the movie and makes the viewer realize that numerous brilliant tints are vividly depicted in the film. It is done brilliantly to capture the idea of the comedy which is based on the opposition of Craig’s disciplined way of living and the impact of the intruding, and absolute slob, Brian. In comparing and contrasting Craig’s orderly home to the appearance of Brian’s apartment, the themes of the narrative are further stressed.

Even though much of the humor it delivers is visual, special effects are used moderately and optimally in the film.

The exact cutting and pacing push smoothly forward, successfully gauging the comedic timing of the numerous scenes without overemphasizing it. The use of successive scenes does not disrupt the continuity of the storyline, and the delivery of comedy retains the punchline it aims to create.

The pace of the film is fast and due to the efficient transition from one scene to the other, dialogue gags are complemented by physical jokes without becoming overwhelming. It captivates the audience, switching between comedy and dramatic acts.

Dialogue is realistic and full of humor, as well as the underlying mood of the main characters. Finally, one would like to have a few words about the principal characters of ‘Friendship’. Craig and Brian have some nice interlocutions that contain some jokes and bright thoughts about people and people’s relationships. Nevertheless, some tissue of the humor may be deliberate and therefore excessive. It strikes a moral chord with the viewers, thus making them contemplate their relationships. Rudd and Robinson outshine the movie’s other aspects to make it stand out as a comedy piece.
