Love Forever - Movie Review

Love Forever portrays the story of a couple Hanna and Samuel from Stockholm with their plans of a simple and close-knit wedding at Gotland but facing a large and entusiastic family interference. A big moment in the movie is a wedding where, as any family drama or relational mishap would pull through, which leads to Hanna running away. Nevertheless, it is from this chaos that a new dimension of understanding and a stronger love are born to open the doors to a happier future. It explores how our dear ones complicate our lives for the better as well as for the worse and the show is a blend of laughter and sorrow. The humors are still present and even used to make the movie a kind of romantic comedy without departing from the universal romantic comedy type but with the flavor of Eastern Scandinavian. They have good on-screen chemistry and, the manner they portrayed their character shows how their love life change as they rise to different challenges. Kjell Bergqvist and Anja Lundqvist in the role of family members in the supporting cast give a great realistic portrayal of loved ones who intrude in one’s life despite their good intentions.

The main intent of Staffan Lindberg as not only the director, but also the author of the script means that the viewer can enjoy the combination of comedy with the deeper layer of emotionally charged drama. As a third picture element, Fons’s vision represents Gotland’s country in a beautiful way and employs nature to show the characters’ development. It also fits in with the wonderful scenery and enhances the audience’s experience surrounding believing in the sweetness of the movie. All the frames look cozy, which is in line with the picture’s romantic theme. This allows the audience to accept the following scenes as natural and realistic settings and events based on the general wide angle photography and soft lighting.

This can be seen in the production of the wedding set, from the quiet wedding to the subsequent disarray. Intensively the perspective makes attention on the details of scenography that gives the extra depth and makes the viewer feel like being in Hanna and Samuel’s world.

While Love Forever is not an experimental with the special effects the film implements their witty usage to emphasize the comical subplot which enhances the overall humorous statement. The pacing enables a good delivery of jokes while at the same time enabling the establishment of deep moments and emotions. This approach does not let the viewer get bored and gives the chance to reveal the main value of the story – the love of the characters.

The dialogues are sharp and the characters’ spirit is vivid. A lot of chemistry between Hanna and Samuel; the dialogues intersperses both humor and emotion between the two characters well.

Despite the movie depicting love and family, some moments of the drama are cliché to viewers who can watch typical romantic comedy movies. In return, the film does not fail to amuse its audiences and goes a step further to portray the true nature of character relations. It is a romantic comedy movie that deviates from the norm of the typical rom-coms while providing engaging scenes and thrilling performances. It’s not astounding, but the idea of what it is, and its honesty are what should make it enjoyable for anyone who is a fan of musicals.
