The Walking Dead: A Gripping and Emotionally Charged Post-Apocalyptic Journey

The Walking Dead relates the tale of Sheriff Deputy Rick Grimes who wakes up from a coma to discover the Earth is now infested with zombies. He forms a group of other survivors and then leads them as they struggle through the struggle of food, shelter, and trying to have some hope in the new world overrun by zombies who like to feast on human flesh.

The survival, leadership, and the instability of the human race form part of the major themes in the series. It always keeps the feeling of creepy and the arrival of zombies felt around every corner as they struggled to navigate through it. It focuses on moral challenges and speaks about the price that people pay for remaining humane when the world is collapsing down.

Satisfactory acting with Andrew Lincoln standing out as Rick Grimes among a large cast of characters. Sheriff’s cast the big names such as Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, whose characters are complex, complicated and yet very strong survivors, who fight for their life.

In safe and capable hands of Greg Nicotero and others, The Walking Dead does just that. The direction takes into account the desolation of the environment and the complex interpersonal relationships within the show, every episode brings intense depiction of human survival.

‘It provides for some incredibly tense atmosphere and adds beautiful sounds to its dark and moody series where it comes up with powerful and really piercing notes even in brief musical scores for action scenes and focused scenes.’

The practical and set designs give a bleak depiction of the world, unfashionable cities and realistic visceral zombie looks that make the skin crawl.

The thing that is worth noting in the series is the work on the special effects and distinguishing the looks of the grotesque and terrifying zombies that chase main characters. The pratical effects and makeup are well done with a sharp real and horrifing touch.

‘The cuts are wolves-to-the-ground, clear-cut and highly focused, establishing a rhythm that underlines the desperation as well as ambiguity of the survivors’ plight.

‘It does an excellent job of giving an audience action while providing substantial drama when necessary, and changing the pace of the series during the periods of dramatic build up and those of fast paced action sequences.’

I liked the dialogue: it makes sense with the characters and their situation, and shows how everybody is struggling with their feelings. It is of course plausible and sometimes blackly funny, providing some light anticlimax during the confrontation.

For all its merits, The Walking Dead can overemphasize its plot to an extent even making it look as though everything can drag out over several seasons, meaning that it has the potential to recycling themes. However, it does so with characters and themes.

The Walking Dead is an intense yet interesting series that brings to life survival in a world that has turned to chaos. It hooks its audience emotionally and delivers in unequalled storytellhing presenting itself as a must-watch for survival horror enthusiasts.
