As the name suggests ‘Only Murders in the Building’, three people who are neighbours in a luxurious Manhattan building love solving murders and have a podcast. A comedian critically panned former tv star, a ridiculous theatre director, and a beautiful young woman search for a murder in their residence realigning their life perspectives in the process. Getting there through lots of mistaken identities, misinterpreted clues, and suspenseful chase scenes, our four friends get drawn nearer to a murderer. That mix of comedy and thriller attributes a nifty plot that becomes attractive to the viewers∧The rapport of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez shines through brightly. In this film, while Gomez stays more subdued but still charming in his persona, Martin brings in good comedy, and Short adds theatrical vivacity. Guest stars like Meryl Streep do work to add more layers to the characters and complement the already great list of casts.
Cherien, Dabis, Babbit, and John Hoffmann do an incredible job co-directing an interesting blend of genres, pacing to keep the audience on the edge and not lose comic relief.
