Love Lies Bleeding: A Dance of Romance and Danger
In ‘Love Lies Bleeding’, the kind hearted Lou played by Kristen Stewart works as a gym manager and finds herself in a position that is surrounded by crime after she meets Jackie, a passionate bodybuilder played by Katy O’Brian who dreams of going to Las Vegas. There is one small flaw as their love grows stronger, Lou’s dangerous criminal family creeps back in and the couple becomes embroiled in a fight for survival. Rose Glass does a wonderful job of posing a mystery and tension, having both a romance and crime genre. It skillfully overplays the passionate feelings in the forbidden love along with the crime story making the overall impression eerie but captivating. It is an incredible mix of passionate lovers and active suspense; the tension never leaves the viewers here.
Both Kristen Stewart, Katy O’Brian amaze with great and versatile acts of the lead characters. Great performances by Michael Shannon and veteran Chris Terrio by portraying Chris add depth to the complex family relationships portrayed in the movie.
A definite mention goes to Dave Franco as Danny and Jena Malone as Liz, who add depth to the twisted family shown in the movie. The technical aspect used in ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ movie is perfect, both in shooting the prohibited vices such as crime and romance. The extension of shadow and light enhances the thriller feelings of the film; the expansive shots of Nevada contributes to an environment filled with sparse vegetation and empty space that helps to develop a scenery for the drama.
The production design is great in portraying the twosidedness of the world of the film transitioning from grimy gyms to the seduction of Las Vegas. From this perspective, the choice made to deploy special effects is excellent as the realism of the sets and costumes’ portrayal lets the audience embrace the history of Lou and Jackie wholeheartedly.
The showpiece is used sparingly but impressively, and it is only in moments when ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ really shines, those special effects, magnificent as they are, do not overshadow the movie’s characters and plot depth.
As for the movie That way, the change from one scene to another intensifies the movie’s suspense and at the same time, slow-motion sequences enable the film’s powerful dramatic moments to be felt.
