Engaging Review of 'How to Train Your Dragon'
The story of the film ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ is based on the fictional Viking village of Berk where the main hero of the movie, Hiccup, is a young and creative Viking who wants to show that he can become a true member of his tribe and become a dragon fighter. However, this is not the case as fate rolls the wheel for him and he befriends a Dream Killer named Toothless. Over time and owing to their developing friendship, Hiccup discovers that the dragons are not the villains as he and the villagers of Berk used to perceive them. This revelation reveals the main character Hiccup’s internal struggle and complicates the views of his village. The evolving relationship between Hiccup and Toothless showcases the power of understanding and empathy. He further adds that the mood of the film is filled with spirit and texture while exploring action packed, positive aspects of the movie accompanied by bouts of tension, which are:eventually resolved in a wholesome and warm way. This is complemented humor in the narrative so that children and youths as well adults find it interesting.
The voice acting in ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ is superb especially by Jay Baruchel for Hiccup who plays the character in natural and youthful manner. Stoik the Vast played by Gerard Butler exhibits distinguished and intense personality that enhances the relationship theme of father and son. America Ferrera’s portrayal as Astrid is a fully realized and realistic female character; the rest of the voice cast adds comedy and warmth to the plot. Their vision gives viewers the feeling that they are living in Berk as the movies is further blended with action and focus is given to character growth. The action scenes are choreographed perfectly, something that narrates the movie’s plot in such a way that maintains the viewer’s interest all throughout.
The music composed by John Powell also blends in with the theme of the film well as the scenes that call for triumph and reflection. The music score is good and proper for the film as it gives the movie an epic feel of adventure as it unfolds. The music in this film is greatly used to enhance the companionship between Hiccup and Toothless and several aspects of their adventure.
The motion picture is visually stunning, and this is seen best in the flying sequences of Hiccup and Toothless. The artistic style and colors used, as well as numerous camera motions give a convincing depiction of the dragons’ world and the Vikings. The visuals design is well-developed with much attention to detail when it comes to both the dragons and the Viking environment of Berk. The general setting of the show is in the village of Berk and the surrounding areas and has historical elements well integrated with the magical realism theme. The design of the dragons is well developed and diverse, all of them are drawn natural and captivating even with some twist of fairy characters All special effects of the movie are well blended into the film so that the viewers can feel that those incredible creatures are real. One of the most outstanding aspects of the movie is flight related as smooth animation is well combined with the sense of adrenalin-pumping feeling of flying. The dragons that have been created are presented as lively as if they are real; they maintain the pace of the movie while retaining coherency of the story. The flow between bursts of action and quieter dramatic scenes is well done, and there is a great consideration for the narrative. The editing complements humor and tension in the movie making the most significant scenes even more powerful.
There is good timing especially in such humor and tension whereby the film never slows down or bores the audience. The level of action is interwoven with the development of main characters so that although the movie does not take long breath, the interest is kept high. One thing I also particularly liked in the movie is the fact that focus is given to the beats of emotions as they are essential contributors to the good message that the movie brings: friendship.
The script of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ is full of funny jokes and clever remarks, which is quite important for the audience, especially children. The relations between characters are authentic and focus on the further development of the characters’ interfacing. In general, ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ can be regarded as a captivating and truly inspirational film since the concept of vikings combined with the spirit of the young fish and the dragon seems to be quite unique and unforgettable. However, some viewers may find it rather unoriginal when it comes to the plot points of the film. Some of the character developments are typical of those presented in any coming-of-age story. Nevertheless, even though there are certain clichḗs inherent in the storyline, the movie produces and enhances them so that predictablility seems a minor concern while watching the film. It is a beautiful film Flores Angst, with a message of compassion and courage that can be understood by the audience no matter where they are from and the aesthetics of the film have a profound effect on those watching it. It can be illustrated as one of the best animated movies that delight viewers and are still considered to be the best in this genre.
