Marvel's What If...? - A Bold Twist on Beloved Heroes
What If...? explores the multiverse of Marvel Comic Universe beyond the conventional human imagination. It poses the question of what if for various historic and pop culture events and changes them around a little. This animated anthology series poses different possibilities in front of the fans and makes them think of different possibilities making the imagination power compelling. Unlike its cousin series Arrow, each episode is self-contained in a narrative world, integrating recurring characters into unknown dimensions.
In power, consequence, and to some extent fate for their actions, the series does not shy from the darker elements inherent in the superhero genre. It play with fate, on how the hinge of change brings about drastic consequences. The see-saw through excitement and introspection keeps the viewers attentive and at the same time perplexed with what constitutes a hero or villain.
All the voice actors are brilliant, but the standout performance is Jeffrey Wright as The Watcher and showcasing the rich prospect of the MCU multiverse. Taika Wititi and Jermaine Clement were able to give each character this rich background which is fueled by the two separate paths that we see the characters in the film take. This is also true for the voice acting which feels both familiar and new to bring great characters to a new set of dilemmas and objectives.
Thanks to Bryan Andrews and Stephan Franck decisions and fresh approach the series is tight and innovative. They create a visually engaging sequence that makes others demand that the company deviate from the usual path in the MCU. Their combined approach to the storytelling vision helps the series to simplify multiple narrations with incredible uniqueness and skill.
The many themes that accompany What If…? have been well captured in the soundtrack that goes well in enhancing the various aspects of the series. It supports the narratives that contribute to the dramatic S and P moments of the series.
A skilful combination of two dimensions and movie aspects, scoring a series sets a view to another dimension. It employs both the conventional cell shading technique and stylish modern architecture to mimic comic book appeal as well as modern Marvel franchise standards.
It develops the elements of fantasy and reality and captures the alluring Marvel domain with a pinch of changes resulting from the new worlds. The show’s fidelity creates an inspiring reality towards its universe exploring the multidimensions.
Simply on this ground, perhaps the choice of animation and special effects in What If…? outdoes many expected animated cartoons. While translating the manga’s screenplay to the big screen, visuals are not only an accompaniment to the text, but the latter actively responds to them. There are no dull or boring moments in the series; the flow moves seamlessly from one scene to the next without the audience ever feeling that it has got off track with its concepts of an alternate reality. The show is played in episodes and such type of show encourages a fast but very smooth ride making it a binge worthy show, all the while maintaining the thrill between the narrative arcs.
The banter is sharp and meaningful, just like the feel of the MCU films. It fits well within the nature of the series, giving the viewer knowledge and information without overemphasizing the show’s mystery of each episode’s narrative.
What If…? joyfully wades deep into concepts and animation but often stumbles on the length of each story, and their execution may feel rather hurried. It used to bother me that some episodes could have benefited from more development and give its great storming ideas the space to strive and hit harder.
I have to note that What If…? casts an incredible spin, making people reflect on everything they know about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Their interaction, a very fun and interesting solution, causes excitement and curiosity, and makes an intense impression on the heart and mind or soul, as one can sa.
