Law & Order: A Crime Drama Classic

Legal drama, that aims at portraying the legal system of New York where most of its cases happen. Each episode is divided into two parts: the first half depicts one of New York City’s police detectives investigating a possible act of violence; the second half is on the presentation of the suspect in the district attorney office. The narrative structure gives an all-inclusive view of both aspects of the legal system and the intricate detailing of both sides of each case as the teams strive to fight and apprehend criminals.

This series explores justice, the right and wrong, and social justice issues and draws from real-life events. It is characterised by a realistic approach to crime fighting, its main plot is based on detective work and judicial processes. This gives zest of reality which forces the audience to think about ethical issues and repercussions of crime and punishment .

In Lawrence & Order there is a list of professional actors, including such tv sights as Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Jerry Orbach. All of them successfully achieve dramatic truth and depict hard-working specialists struggling with the criminal justice system. Thanks to the complex characters, viewers can watch the interesting stories and character’s development while they are solving moral and ethical questions.

The show’s direction is rather tenacious and does not deviate from the necessary narrative clarity and reasonable pacing. The work of directors Constantine Makris, Edwin Sherin, and Jace Alexander is noteworthy since they are successfully trying to maintain the high tension of the narrative while introducing the comments of the characters into the text at the same time.

The main theme of Law & Order by Mike Post is famous all over the world and perfectly reflects the atmosphere of the show. The music and sound mix used throughout the show is capable of adding a lot of drama to key scenes and also in keeping the atmosphere tense.

The cameral work of Law & Order is another fascinating aspect; the show is filmed in New York and the show’s setting reflects the urban environment helping to create a realistic atmosphere. The use of visuals includes shot selection of both the camera and lights, in addition to editing of the shots with regard to the effect being conveyed in every scene. This contributes to the audience involvement – we are beckoned deeper into the world of criminals and detectives.

The set design of Law & Order depicts different aspects of New York City’s law and enforcement somewhat realistically. Both the precincts and the courtrooms are designed thoughtfully which adds to the general detailing of the series. This passion for truth adds realism to the series and contributes to making viewers buy into the show’s premise.

What we can see is that Law & Order is not a show that depends on special effects. But when infrequently used, they blend into the movie to supplament the plot without compromising the authenticity of the movie. The lighting and action directing still do not seem extraordinary; it stays focused on good writing and acting.

Law & Order has good editing and pacing which is best seen with its two intertwining stories. The shifts between the two segments of the show are smooth, leaving audience members interested in the plot and eager to see what will happen next.

When it comes to pacing Law & Order works very well because it provides equal time and focus to the investigation and prosecution sides of the show. This even pacing helps to tell a complete story each week, while still not neglecting the developments of the respective series arcs that have been laid out through the episodes from earlier parts of the series.:=This has always been a strength of Law & Order, while the dialog, while stilted at times, remains purposeful and smart, reflecting the professionalism and thinking of individuals involved in law enforcement and legal processes. Most of the discussions are saturated with legal predicates and other terms, which enrich the overall atmosphere of the show.

The last weakness that could be pointed out is the fact that the show often draws a specific pattern, traditional for legal dramas, and thus, gets quite predictable. Such things may cause disturbance to the continuity of the show making it a little disturbing to the continuity of characters and the viewers’ emotions attached to them.

Law & Order is a classic crime drama, which is familiar to many viewers thanks to its sharp plots and great acting. I find the experience of watching the series rather emotional, and come to ponder the questions of justice and morality. Hence, the show gained its popularity to the feature that it provokes the audience’s thoughts on the significant and sensitive problems of society.
