Exploring Humanity's Roots in 'The Return'
‘The Return’ depicts the process of Odysseus returning home to Ithaca from the Trojan War in the end. particle of personal struggle in harsh path of the war, which resulting in mental and physical effect, to rescue his wife Penelope who is surrounded by suitors and to save his son Telemachus on the verge of getting killed. By being able to strip him and bring him back to his roots, he is able to defeat the power holding his kingdom to ransom.
It is a homecoming saga wrapped in themes of identity crisis and the quest for redemption. This series keeps a mood of sorrow and introspection, as it reacts to the effects of warfare on familial relationships and self-change. Being the story where internal search motivates characters more than their external adventures filled with metaphysical interpretations of guilt, love and loss. In the role of Penelope, Juliette Binoche is liberal, wise and patient, giving the character more dignity. Telemachus by Charlie Plummer Wagner’s portrayal of a man-child torn between obedience to his father and his own rebellion
Uberto Pasolini’s direction leaves creative and traditional strokes proving the successful interpretation to the ancient text. His vision is on the character arcs and depth to the mythos and archetypical heroism in their emotional core.
The score adds to the scope of the story and mixes very soft Greek inspirations with what is itself capable of an orchestral score. The music enhances emotional scenes, and helps understand the struggle within protagonist Odysseus’ soul.
The cinematography deserves highest praises, as it captures stunning landscape of Greece. Through the cinematography, the calm nature of Ithaca is juxtaposed with the turbulence in Odysseus, adding to the themes of the film.
The historical aspects of the story as well as some of the mythological features are depicted through the film’s production design, costume design, make up and scenic design to bring Byzantine Greece to life.
While not heavily dependent on special effects, one particular scene especially is used where Od Juxtaposition of flashbacks and dream sequences contributes to the development while not completely taking the audience out from the movie world.
Inclusion and the combination of action and contemplation do not let the pace slow down while keeping the audience involved into the multilayered story.
The film has very distinct and meaningful script, didactically resembling the original epic. Cordial is heavy with emotions, being smartly encoded the relations between characters and their struggles.
On one hand, reimagining the story was achieved successfully, yet at times film becomes overly philosophical, pushing away audience not very familiar with story by Rodion Strategyhin. Less dichotomy on the actionintrospection spectrum may improve accessibility though. Finally, it stands strongly for the principal themes of human failure and triumph and should be seen it will be good news for fans of Greek mythology and cinema enthusiasts.
