This movie is an adventure-comedyBusy where a group of young outcasts who could lose their homes on the construction of a golf course come across a treasure map of One-Eyed Willie the pirate. Inspired by the rebellious energy of teenagers and fear of losing their home, the Goonies start their mission which is filled with dangers, traps and Fratelli criminal organization. This journey starts with great planning and outrageous bravery to find One-Eyed Willy’s lost treasure and to travel through an underground of traps and obstacles in the coast of Oregon. A complete adventure-comedy this movie perfectly captures the spirit of the lovable youth and underdog stories that was synonymous with the 80s. It contains exciting and comical moments of friendship and danger as a portrayal of youthful energy and adventure.

The actors, including Sean AstinMikey, are full of energy and truly pumped up. Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman and the cast provide the best portrayal of teenagers spirit, combining comedy with emotions. They themselves are believable friends, and their friendship makes the adventure credible, too. Every character in ‘The Goonies’ has his or her own personality adding for a very vivid and well rounded team and also having this feel of real kids going after a dream, the movie is funny and adventurous and a blend that works well when directed by Richard Donner. His approach is fitting to the adventurous nature of the series since it makes it very enjoyable to anticipate major turns in the story while at the same time keeping the flow of the story line coherent enough to conform to youthful daring spirit. What the direction does effectively – it depicts the frantic passion, chasing something above one’s self, while maintaining the romantic feel that never takes the center stage but adds depth to it.

The music by Dave Grusin supports the adventurous spirit of the movie adding emotional depth to the scenes, growing the intensity every time it emerges. All the components uplift the story’s excitement level, from the stave chase sequences to quiet moments of contemplation, integrating the tunes fully into the movie goings-on.

Evocative of the opulent settings of the Oregon coast and the seductive subterranean, the direction in ‘The Goonies’ is captivating. Lighting plays into creating suspense enhancing the mystery that is evident in the movie as it depicts the treasures hunts scenes creatively.

The set design is excellent especially the underground caves and the pirate’s ship. The concept used in the design is quite effective in merging fiction with reality so that the audience can easily transform to Another World that was depicted in the Goonies. Every sequence is well thought out, which adds to the realistic and whimsical aspect of the film, of being on a real journey, with who knows what lurking in every corner.

In ‘The Goonies’, the special effects for the time when the movie was made are quite engrossing especially on the creation of the booby traps and other related features. These however are definitely characteristic of the 80s and in enhancing the film’s adventure aspect add well to the film otherwise driven mostly by its story.

The fast cutting provides for a high energy feel for the film which does not let up in between hence complementing on the tension and excitement. Editor Michael Kahn makes sure that an energy of a play and a realistic pace of young people’s lives is preserved, in moments of quiet contemplation and in chase, all cut with a perfect timing. Whatever could have been disappointing is offset by the climaxing action sequences, and the character development; while there is never a dull moment, the audience focuses and is involved with the plight of the characters presenting an interesting adventure.

The dialogues used in this film are quite original: there is the distinct atmosphere of lightheartedness and young humor. It focuses on newcomers’ friendship and at the same time, reveals true feelings that a character experiences throughout the transformation. The Goonies is beloved but some of the moments between the children and pirate characters and some of the special effects as well as the structure of the plot feels very much of the eighties. However these elements add up to the element of the charms of the nostalgia, which brings the audience back to the simpler kind of the movie stories based on the heart and the imagination. It retains a charming avenue to this very day, though modern audience tendency may consider some sequences inconsistent with modern form of storytelling .

Once out of watching The Goonies, it’s rather exiting the fun fair where the ride was a magical and exciting trip. It offers a positive message for the audience and makes people listen to their inner child telling them to go on an adventure and be friends! The movie overall creates a long-lasting impact as it has an interesting plot, energetic acting, and touchy subjects as the friendship and courage. Finally, it is a bright and colorful image of young people’s desire to test their freedom, and it is why fans have been enthralled by it for generations.
