Rock On in School of Rock
In School of Rock, Jack Black is Dewey Finn, a man forbidden from music after failing an audition which saw him impersonate a substitute teacher in prep school. When he realizes that his students are musical talents, he turns them into a rock band to participate in Battle of the Bands event and in the process keep from the school authorities and parents. The audience will easily identify different themes and messages ‘School of Rock’ has to offer such as self-actualization and finding one’s purpose in life, the joy of creating music and the virtue of friendship. Though the movie has its fair share of humorous content, it is also filled with fine emotions and messages that match the happy, cheerful atmosphere of the movie. It is a story of order and conformity vs the spirit of creativity and freedom.
Jack Black seriously shines in the film as Dewey Finn having a forceful energy, comedy, and positive vibes throughout. The young cast is also impressive especially Miranda Cosgrove who plays the self-serving class factotum. This charm is brought in cameos by each student making the dimension of humor in the film richer and profounder to watch.
The performances are as candid and real as Life of the Parties’ director Richard Linklater is known to create with his kind of cinema. His work also makes it that whilst unfailingly fun, the film never loses sight of the heart to allow consumer attention to wane at any point in time.
The film also has music from well-known rock films, which supports the liveliness of the picture. The added pieces of music are integrated with famous tracks that fit the story and create more emotions based on nostalgia.
The look and feel of the movie was good especially by the cinematographer Rogier Stoffers, by the use of energetic movement and bright colors that give the desired rock and roll feel. Captured well shot is the classroom scenes that depict intimacy that is charged with energy.
Great work is done in production where more elements are enticed with the usual school environment with going rocker delighting readers with how Dewey transformed his students. Every element of music sets for classrooms and sending kids to rock stage are employed in making of the School of Rock movie.
Little or no dependency on the use of effects makes School of Rock movie real throughout its content. A few employed effects further performance scenes, agreeing with the film’s visual quirkiness without interference.
Sandy Adair keeps narratives’ pacing fluent, synchronizing comedy with emotion. The film’s rhythm is good and interesting and people follow the story of Dewey and the students performing musical. The act sequences seem to flow smoothly from one to the other, the pace is rather good and viewers have no reason to be bored.
A lot of emphasis is placed on the dialog in School of Rock, and Jack Black does not disappoint as far as humor is concerned. The conversations between Dewey and the students are very realistic and quite funny; |It is important to mention that even though School of Rock is an entertaining movie, there are some clichés common for comedies, which where used in this film. Some of the characters mentioned in the film could also have a bit of an expanded character arc. Nevertheless, it is possible to state that the particular film is minor flawed, but its positive energy is hard to miss. This one made me feel inspired and happy and very much concentrated on perseverance and pursuing one’s passion in spite of all adversities. Jack Black’s incredible performance sets the film apart, though music and comedy fans won’t want to miss it.
