The Queen of the Ring is a tale set in the era of professional wrestling where the arena was a man’s domain, where a small town single mother surpassed societal and legal boundaries to be a trailblazer in women’s wrestling. Her tale of becoming famous as she rose from obscurity to centre stage is gripping and speaks of struggle and success for a trailblazing female athlete.|The film elegantly addresses themes of perseverance, empowerment, and the having broken gender barriers. It has a heartfelt and motivating tone that takes us through the challenges faced by woman athletes in male dominated sport at the era described. The already gritty feel of the tone of the album is even further solidified by the uplifting tone of the protagonist, who doesn’t stop fighting to reach her dreams no matter how hard the obstacle is in front of her.|Emily Bett Rickards playfully performed with depth and authenticity that brings her character to life. With strong performances from the supporting cast, including Josh Lucas and Tyler Posey, the narrative is superbly enhanced by each of the actors adding their own charm to the film. Director Ash Avildsen forges a compelling cinematic blend of sport, biography and drama in which he handles some challenging material in a manner that is definitely fresh; the characters are fully fleshed out, to the point that you do build a relationship to them as they ebb and flow on screen. The emotional and competitive elements of the story were neither left untouched or neglected during His direction, and the audience was pulled through an inspiring story journey.

An element of the wrestling world is captured with vivid visuals and dynamic camera work. The film uses light and shadow to great affect to create an atmosphere both visually appealing and in context, and the production design does a wonderful job creating an environment both in touch with the time and place of the film. The wrestling from the rings to the costumes down to every detail is carefully crafted so you feel like you’re in the world of the protagonist, adding authenticity to that journey.

Special effects are sparingly but well used to bring the wrestling scenes to life. The reactions are integrated into the action so well, and are so realistic from a competitive perspective, that the sequences don’t feel too fantastical while also not being too overshadowing to the narrative.

The editing is sharp and tight, setting up a clearly defined narrative that keeps the audience into the story from beginning to end. Between discerning dramatic changes and brutal wrestling matches, there’s a rhythm in the way this transitions that propels the story along.|A film, for its part, has a nice pace, balancing character development with the action packed wrestling sequences. It slowly piles up along with an emotionally moving climax that concludes with the winner triumphantly pitting her against Sylveon until a final blow and the tense control of the champions happy tears.

Dialogue is poignant and meaningful showcasing determination and fortitude of the hero. The conversations between them convey the emotional stakes and the thematic intricacies in an expressive manner, and are thoughtfully crafted.|While Queen of the Ring is about characters and storytelling, the length may feel a bit stretched in some points and it may affect the engagement a bit. In these areas, the film could gain much from tighter scripting. However, it is still a moving portrayal of perseverance against the odds
