A High-Octane Masterpiece
This action film, set in a future desert, follows the escape of Furiousa, a highly skilled warrior capable of driving, against Immortan Joe, the despot ruler of the post-apocalyptic world. Together with Max Rockatansky, they drive in a car through a desert area to fight for their lives and a chance to become free from oppression. It painted a dark but very engaging picture of a world with an unrelenting action movie vibe that lasts from beginning to end, keeping you on the edge of your seat.
Furiosa was portrayed in a very strong and resolute manner by Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy equally does a great job as the mysterious and quiet Max Rockatansk. Nicholas Hoult and Hugh Keays-Byrne give this dystopian saga nuanced personalities: haunting and occasionally sympathetic. His vision is a masterpiece narrating a beautifully detailed and realistically chaotic world, further putting his mastery in the genre to test.
The music by Junkie XL is excellent and matches the energy and action of the sequences. It continues the movie ahead, giving another type of speed to the ceaseless chase .
John Seale’s work of director of photography carries interesting view of magnificent scenery of desert in its vivid colors and precise angles. The visuals and specially emphasize the film action scenes with the help of dynamic style of camera work.
The film is also brilliantly designed by Colin Gibson in regards to creating the unique image of maximal realistic setting of the film. Even the vehicles look improvised and filthy and the set looks real adding to the extravaganza of the movie.
The realism of the bouncing car stunts, rigs and the dynamite action scenes are fabulous and real making the film incredible. The commitment made to using practical effects over CGI gives weight to the chaos and an intensity that otherwise would be lost.
Margaret Sixel has composed the film with brilliant pieces of editing that continuously remain fast and relentless but do not confuse the audience. There are no moments of boredom, no unnecessary scene changes and rather smooth stunts and fight scenes, making the entire movie interesting to watch.
While not overly chatty, there is just enough dialogue to deliver the feelings, goals and desires of the characters. It dovetails with the film’s graphics so that the fantastic stunt work can shine unimpeded.
Compared to it, the action and visuals are refined, but some people might think that the plot is underdeveloped. Though, with regard to the overall concept of world-building, there are moments when it seems to overshadow the development of characters. Nonetheless, the films sheer spectacle and audacity make it a remarkable achievement.
Mad Max: Mad Max Fury Road is an intense unrelenting thrilling ride, defying nearly all conventions of the action film. It’s the high-kicking visuals, the outstanding acting and all-round impeccable directing which make an unforgettable masterpiece of contemporary cinema.
