The smoothness in editing enables one to have a winning pace in the narrative. It keeps the audience engaged from the past and goes smoothly into the present, making them emotionally interested in the goal of its main character without making them feel detached.
The true pace of the film feels well-calibrated – it has its buildups and moments of dramatic intensity, but it also has moments of quiet contemplation. It lets the audience understand the extent of the metamorphoses Lily goes through.
There are many monologues and dialogues which reveal the inner story of each character, their sufferings, and dreams. The script manages to build a fair amount of chemistry between the protagonists and main enemies, switching between romantic moments and conflicts meaningfully.
There are some certain characters whose development could have either been explored in more detail or expanded in the movie more. It’s also possible to become bored at some points because many details may remind you of the book. Though, it fully manages to compensate for it with powerful emotional performances and character growth.
